It’s happened to everyone.
You’re throwing a summer BBQ complete with a carefully selected roster of Ontario Craft Beer, when your well-intentioned friend surprises you with nothing other than a 6-pack of mass-produced beer (the company name shall remain anonymous to protect the massive). Do not fret my craft beer lovin’ friend, I’ve got a simple solution for you. When life hands you mass-produced beer, make beer bread!
You no longer have to feel stressed out by the beer in question taking up precious space in your tightly crammed refrigerator OR send your friend home with the exact 6-pack that he or she so kindly brought you. All you have to do is turn that 341 ml bottle of adjunct funk into this glorious mock-sourdough recipe.
Ingredients:
3 cups of flour (your choice, but I prefer locally produced spelt flour)
1 bottle flat beer (mass-produced lagers are encouraged)
2 Tbs of sweetener (I generally use Ontario honey or agave nectar)
1/2 tsp salt
2 tsp baking soda
Optional:
- Flax seeds
- Spices
- anything else your palate fancies!
Process:
1. Mix flat beer and sugar
2. Mix dry ingredients
3. Combine wet with dry and mix well.
4. Put in buttered bread pan and bake for about 50 minutes at 325 F.
Now you can breathe a sign of relief – for you have given the mass-produced beer a greater purpose. Cheers and enjoy!
